About me

I'm Johanna, a bilingual media and communication professional with a passion for telling stories that matter. For over 15 years, my work has been defined by a deep commitment to finding and amplifying authentic voices.
My journey began in the vibrant newsrooms of Colombia, where I built a strong foundation as a reporter and editor, embracing a journalism culture that values on-the-ground reporting and public service. From there, I dedicated a decade to shaping the next generation of journalists as a university professor, mentoring over 100 students and leading a university media outlet and journalism lab. This blend of practical experience and academic leadership gave me a unique perspective on the evolving media landscape—one that is both ethical and forward-thinking.
In recent years, I've brought my skills to the public media sphere in the U.S., focusing on audio, video, and web production to create stories that resonate. My work is driven by a deep sense of responsibility to the communities I cover, particularly underserved Hispanic and Latino populations. I believe in building trusted relationships and crafting impactful stories that bridge cultural divides.
My goal is to produce high-quality, relevant work that makes a difference. My professional path is grounded in my academic journey. I hold a Ph.D. in Communication from Universidad Nacional de La Plata, a Proper master’s in digital journalism from Universidad de Alcalá de Henares, and a B.A. in Social Communication – Journalism from Universidad Autónoma de Occidente.
I am available to lend my expertise in journalism, communication, and media education to projects that require a comprehensive, ethical, and cultural approach. I look forward to collaborating with you to elevate your next project.
